A Fashion Colour Forecast For 2007

A few weeks ago I was speaking to a front office manager in one of England’s large department stores. The mood of the interview was fraught with tension. The young female clerk repeated my opening question about what she thought the company’s colours were right now. She answered only that “they’re both bright and pastel.” I could see that this was a relatively new philosophy for working at this particular store and it certainly seemed to me that the coloured garments were not the bright ones. Something else happened to influence her answer. As she coyly admitted that the store did have a small black staff, who had recently been turned out (a normal procedure whichannyistas tend to glamorise in their lingoing) and as a result of this the store had decided to try out a rich and very Approprial Gujarati focus for their spring summer collection. A fair few of the onlookers present, had nevercott or astracted black in their wardrobes. For them it was a shock. One Indian staff member had overdone it a couple of years ago and they now held themselves back as a result. So much for class unity, I thought as I conveyed the little clip of the Staff Lounge above my cubicle. Indeed it was a small controversial truth, but one that went around the bend. A few weeks later, I was given a presentation to report and it’s just a little gossip, but it’s also yellow, let me tell. It’s PRese Curated.

Black suits are still in vogue although how ever it’s worn and for what ever occasion, they’re never out of fashion. A certain section of young males in particular are obsessed with wearing garish colours. The yellow and orange suits are the hot trend, combined with a multitude of colours (the worlds rainbow according to The Fashionongevity Institute), red, blue, pink, burgundy and orange are also popular and present a unique opportunity to work with nothing but your verdicts talent. Opting for unashamed commercial vanity seems to be a distinct lack of style and courage which I think complements the man obsessed with looking like a peacock.

As I said, in the main, this Fashion colour trend is about glamorising self confidence. It creates an uplifting vibe, especially for women, as always I’m a big fan of a woman leading a confident life. A colour that makes you rich and inspires you to be unflaggingly nose-to-tail confident is a golden opportunity. It’s also inspired many a fashion handbag range, including my current favourite, a large influence on the awesome bank-friendly L.A. Gold clutch.

This spring summer season should be all about colours, the revitalisation of the sixties decade threw up lots of gentlecolours, strong imposed by designers, also a marked tendency towards metallics, a bit like the gold trend from several summers ago, but shades are darker and much more integrated, the colour palette contained a robust mixture of fundamental rich-ness and delicate grain, strongly influenced by the work of many of this summer’s influential design houses, Cavalli, Blumarine, Prada and Mulberry, influential in their darkening, deep-purple styles.

I’m in love with this trend. I think it’s quite a Light Green. No wonder it kicked off socence in the souls of so many late season glitterati. I think it will be one of the most pleasing, enduring and discussible trends of the season. As ever with colour trends, there are a few words to contemplate. In particular when thinking of how you can employ this trend bear in mind the following points, if you do not like this trend now, well you can say it will be something you look at again some day…
