Why would you wear Jordan shoes? These shoes are so unlike any other shoes that I have seen them – until now. But, I still want to understand them.
Before I get down to writing my memories of Jordan shoes, I have to tell you one thing. These shoes aren’t just a style – they are a lifestyle. For me, I know that style isn’t everything, but who wouldn’t want to say that they’re looking for comfort first, and that’s what Jordan shoes have.
I was raised on the mean streets. My parents were tough – very tough. They always made sure that I was wrapped up, that I would be safe and they would let me go when I wanted to go. That was the streets for you to live in, for a kid from a poor family like me.
My favorite things to play on the basketball court were my Michael Jordan shoes. I focused in on my jump shot. I knew I could shoot – I just needed to improve my offense. That’s when I realized, while I’m shooting the shot, all I need is my Jordan shoes. They’ve been through a lot together – a lot of beating, a lot of hard times – and they may not look as good as the others, but they’re definitely worked and they will still work.
When I was in high school, in the bleachers, I would often just burn those A’s down. I’d spin, shoot, finish, get an extra point, make a comeback – and I’d be ready. I’d run up the score to become the winningest player in the bout. I had perfected my game. And then I got a pair of Jordan shoes.
I have to admit that I didn’t think I was ever going to be a professional in the NBA. I mean, I wanted to, but I got my big break in college. I was drafted in the 1994 NBA auction, the second highest highest paid player. But unlike the other players who received their shoes from their NBA teams, mine were given to me by the Egyptianamelic pottery seller.
When I got the shoes, I was happy. I figured I was going to be a professional basket ball player. But I just enjoyed playing basketball. I was still thinking I was going to be an NBA athlete when I was done playing. That’s when my true passion for the game kicked in. Now, I’m an NBA free agent, and I still get excited every time the Blazers or Nerlins are on the court.
In the Blazers and Nerlins, I love to watch second by second, the action can slow down and I can see the paint drying on the frame, I can see the sweat beads in the corners of my vision. It actually felt like I was there in the game. That’s when I started to understand what it was like to truly love a game.
Now that I’ve been in the NBA, I’ve been back to court many times. My favorite players in the NBA are super flashy – but they’re all individuals. Each one is unique, and they make their own individual jerseys. I think Nike makes the best jerseys in the NBA.
When I watch players like Lebron James, Kobe Bryant and Dwayne Wade on the hardwood, I’ll feel like them are really mine. As a legacy player, I really appreciate the jersey that they wear and the All-Star selection. As an NBA superstar, Kobe has been known to take his jersey into the court and run around. He can do so much things as a forward for his team. He can dunk it in, raise it up, dunk it into the souvenir bottle, whatever his crazy needs. And it always somehow goes out of style.
