How The West Was Won

Our fascination with the days of cowboys and Indians doesn’t seem to have abated over the years. From the days of John Wayne to the Disney portrayal of Pocahontas, the days when America was still a frontier to be discovered and danger was around every turn have kept Hollywood busy. Cowboys, saloon girls, sheriffs and outlaws – Indian princesses and warriors on horseback – no one can say Hollywood hasn’t fooled us!

Yet our fascination with this time in history doesn’t only exist in film; our descriptions of it mold our ideas of what history might have been. Who could have predicted that Santa would be featured in a major scene of the latest Batman movie? Or that inevitable moment when an indestructible cop snaps out of a costume to reveal… an Elvis Presley look-alike?

We might never know the answer to those questions, but every generation has its own perceptions of how the West was won. As children our mindsude at the fantasy of what may have happened. As adults, however, the West is still a place where opportunities abound for us to liven up our fantasies.

A western tie-and-felt cowboy hat boasts an image of the old West. This is probably the most popular cowboy hat, and probably the most prolific. From the time it was introduced, through decades of alternating material and shape-shifts, it has gathered enough consumers to create at least five different popular styles. Not only is it a widely-made product, but it also has an enormous fan following. People of any age, gender or social class can own and sport a western hat.

No matter how you hold it, western hats will most likely look good on you. They have a unique style that can be complimented by anything you wear. They are a persistent trend, fresh and original, and almost as powerful a trend as denim jeans. Vintage denim is slowly becoming fashion faux pas. On the contrary, western hats have become a durable, high-STYLE staple in almost every wardrobe. And unlike vintage jeans, which are frequently discarded, you’ll definitely want to keep a few western hats around for several year’s!

To find out what western hats are hot right now, browse the large selection of websites that sell them. Even if you’re not interested in a specific hat, the general public will have an expansive array of choices to make your hat-collection comprehensive! Some of the top-selling styles include:

ERDC Denim Hats from Rose City Denim – featuring scratch-resistant action abrasion fabric, these western hats are the ultimate in durability and comfort.

Holmes chin whisker western hat – a mod-style inspired pink hat with a rose-gold beaded detail. This hat sits on pattern recognition, with its near- Omnipresent design.

Coachalogic Stetson Ladies Collection – an extremely limited edition hat from the Coachalogic Stations Collection. Wearing a coachalogic print on a western beige background, the print has strong, near- Endless style that keeps the print appearing and disappearing over time.

There are limitations to using current style trends to define vintage style. Trends are ever-changing and usually dependent on the wearer’s taste. Still, there are classic prints that are enjoying renewed popularity today. My personal favorite stays true to the spirit of the vintage era: comic strips. When handled by a skilled artisan, the punch of a printed cartoon remains fresh and appealing; while the colors under a pencil line satisfy the eye for a comfortable and stylish look.

From the runways of Paris to the streets of Marvel Country, Stetson will always be a classic. And hopefully, its staying power will continue for many years to come.
